Counselling and therapy for phobias
Everyone has fears in life. It is a completely natural response to certain things and situations. In some people those fears are far more pronounced and will manifest as phobias which feel like an overwhelming fear and can be incredibly difficult to live with. It can prevent us from doing certain things or going to certain places, which can feel isolating and frustrating and quite often we think that people just don’t ‘get it’.
At their root, phobias are a type of anxiety disorder and can range from specific phobias, such as a fear of flying, complex phobias, such as agoraphobia and social phobias.
Phobias can develop at any time in our lives and working together we can look at triggers and may be able to uncover the root of your phobia. We can examine your cognitive processes around this overwhelming fear that may be disrupting your life.
Understand and overcome your phobias
It may sometimes be helpful to give you exercises to try at home but primarily, we will explore both your emotional and cognitive processes to try to understand the root of your phobia.
Some phobias can be resolved and others worked with to a stage where they feel less threatening. In working together, we can develop understanding and resources to help you understand and hopefully overcome your phobias.
